Monuments of Zakynthos:
Public Library: The history of the Municipal Library of Zakynthos, begins in 1628, when it was first founded inside the Castle. The destructive earthquake and the fire in 1953, destroyed more from 33.000 tomes of its unique collection, among them being important documents of Kolokotronis, of Lord Byron and of several other important historical documents.
Venetian Fountain: Venetian Fountain located in Kryoneri of Zakynthos town. Today this is a stone fountain in the past but it was a stone aqueduct which fed the entire city with water. Built in the 16th century by the Venetians which had occupied the island since 1485.
Venetian Castle: The Venetian Castle is located in Bochali, just 2 km from the city. The castle is of great historical importance as within the years of Venetian vriskotane the island's capital. The exact date of the castle is not known.
Messala Building: The building of the family is in Messala Lithakia which is about 10 km from the town center and is typical of the island mansion of the 19th century. It was restored in the late 1990s by the community and subsequently used as the Environmental Education Center. During the English occupation was used as a court.
Strani Hill: Two kilometres away from Zakynthos city, we arrive at Strani Hill. This is were our National Poet Dionisios Solomos, who ispired from canonnades in Mesologgi ,wrote our National Anthem. In the small square, where nowadys dominates the bust of Dionisios Solomos, used to be the tree in the shade of which our National wrote the Anthem to the Freedom.
Stavros Schizas: The island's northernmost point at Cape Schinari, near White Rock, are the Blue Caves. This is a unique spectacle fascinated by the charm of the rocks and the beauty of colorful sea. The intense blue color that gets everything submerged in the water gave the name in these caves.
