Museums in Samos:
Archaeological Museum : The Archaeological Museum of Samos is housed in two buildings in the center of the town of Samos. The one is the so-called “Paschalion Archaeophylakeion”, which used to be the museum of the island since 1912; the other has been constructed and inaugurated in 1980s’
Archaeological Collection of Pythagorio: The Archaeological Collection of Pythagorio is housed at the ground floor of the Town Hall, a building constructed in early 20th century, after the liberation of the island. The building was restored after the end of the World War II, because it had suffered extended damages; in 1990s’ restoration works had been undertaken anew, especially at the eastern part of the building.
The Folk Museum : One of the main aims of the “Nicolaos Demetriou Intellectual Foundation” was to found a Folk Museum, an aim that was effectuated in late 1990s’ when the Museum opened to the public. The museum is hosted in a building which is property of the private tourist company that founded it.
Historic and Folk Museum of Karlovassi: The Historic and Folk Museum of the Municipality of Karlovasi was founded in 1994. The collections and the exhibits displayed cover a period from the last 30 years of the 19th century up to mid-20th century, approximately 1955, the departing point of development and changes which resulted in actual Samos.
The Paleontological Museum of Mytilinii: The Museum of Natural History of the Aegean is situated at the village of Mytilinioi; the museum has two domains, the Paleontological Museum and the domain of Natural History. The Paleontological Museum was established in 1960s’. In 1995 it moved in a new modern building.
