Museums in Kythera:
Archaeological Museum: The museum was constructed in 1911 in order to shelter the Kytherian Association. In 1979 the Kytherian Association gave away the building to the Greek State in order to house the museum. Samples of prehistoric vessels of the Minoan and Mycenaean period mainly from Paleopoli, marmoreal sculptures, ceramic, inscriptions, currencies, are what you will see in the museum.
Byzantium Museum: It houses the collection of Byzantine and Post Byzantine art. It is accommodated in the Post Byzantine church of the Ascension at Livadi. The items of the collection have been granted by the Holy Metropolis of Kythera. There are murals(hagiographies) from the old Early Christianic years to the Post Byzantine, works of religious painting and objects of the religious ritual.
